David Tully-Smith, MD, PhD
President & CEO
Dr. Tully-Smith has worked in the field of Medical Informatics since 1970. After completing his PhD in physical chemistry, specializing in theoretical chemical physics and statistical mechanics, he focused on applying modern science and technology to medicine. While attending the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, he accurately envisioned the application of computer technology to clinical medicine, leading to his role as co-founder of ChartWare. He has utilized electronic medical records in his own primary care private practice since 1984.
His experience includes work at the RAND Corporation, academic and teaching assignments, and serving in an executive capacity for healthcare organizations.
Daniel Essin, MD
Chairman
As Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of ChartWare, Dr. Essin architects the company's core products within the framework of his long experience in electronic medical record keeping. He is currently the Director of Medical Informatics at Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center, where he has held several key posts since 1984 in the field of computerized patient information systems, including serving as co-chair of the Medical Records Committee.
Dr. Essin followed his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego, in 1974 with Fellowships in Pediatric Pulmonary Disease and Ambulatory Pediatrics at Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center. He has published numerous peer-reviewed research papers and articles related to computerized patient information systems and has presented papers at conferences around the world.
Ernie Chastain
Vice President
Mr. Chastain, a veteran of 25 years of executive management experience in the ambulatory healthcare software industry, lends strength to the ChartWare management team. He is a nationally recognized leader with an extensive track record in successfully growing Electronic Medical Record and Practice Management software companies.
Prior to joining ChartWare, Mr. Chastain held positions as President of the Enterprise Division at InfoCure/VitalWorks Inc. and Vice President of Sales at VantageMed Inc., Quality Systems Inc. and Versyss Inc. Mr. Chastain holds a BBA in Marketing from the University of Georgia.
Dana Tully-Smith
Vice President
Ms. Tully-Smith, a member of the ChartWare founding team, has been a business executive since 1979, respected for her expertise in medical practice management and small business finance and for her experience as a vendor providing turnkey computer systems for doctors' offices for 16 years. Her dedication to helping doctors provide the best possible care for their patients brings an added dimension to her work as Chief Financial Officer for ChartWare.
Prior to her business experience she enjoyed serving as the senior editor at G.W. Hooper Foundation and Department of International Health at UCSF. Ms. Tully-Smith was a Dean's Scholar at Cornell University and holds a BA in Geography from UCLA, where she also assisted in the Office of Extramural Support handling all contracts and grants for the UCLA campus.
Blake Tullysmith
Chief Information Officer
Mr. Tullysmith utilizes his computer science background, his government programming experience and his diverse consulting expertise in evaluating and identifying information technology solutions both for the internal use of ChartWare staff members and for integration into our products for the benefit of our customers.
In addition, Mr. Tullysmith has served as consulting adviser in the telecommunications industry, participated in defense contracts, done volunteer technical evaluation for a non-profit corporation, and contributed to assorted open-source projects.
Reg Green
Vice President
As Vice President of Communications for ChartWare, Mr. Green draws upon his experience as an internationally known journalist and public relations specialist. He was a feature writer and reporter for newspapers such as the London Daily Telegraph and the Manchester Guardian and a freelance contributor to the British Broadcasting Corporation. He has written dozens of articles for major publications around the world. He authored an acclaimed book called "The Nicholas Effect," a story that was also made into a television movie, starring Jamie Lee Curtis, titled "Nicolas' Gift."
Laurie Killilea, MBA, DBA
Customer Services Manager
Ms. Killilea blends her 25 years of practical experience in the healthcare arena with her expertise in process improvement, team building and strategic planning to provide a unique approach to client satisfaction at ChartWare. Her empathy for ChartWare customers derives in part from the fact that as an outpatient practice administrator, she successfully implemented and customized ChartWare, taking the clinic completely paperless.
Ms. Killilea holds a Doctorate in Business Administration, with her doctoral dissertation being a longitudinal study of patient preferences for pain medications addressing access, consumption and compliance. Her prior degrees include an M.B.A. in Healthcare Administration and a M.Ed. in Industrial Psychology.
